That amazing feeling you get when you finally nail that riff

I'm pretty stoked with my guitar-playing right now. I don't know how it works with other guitarists, but often I find a riff that I absolutely love but I just can't play it right. So I try and learn the riff for a while, but I eventually give up. A few months/years down the line I suddenly remember the riff, but this time when I pick up my guitar I can play it!! ? The sense of achievement I get in just sitting in my room and playing the riff over and over again is exactly what guitar playing is about for me. The riff I am referring to here is the intro and verse of Creed's 'You Stand Here With Me' of their Weathered album. Mark Tremonti is my all time favourite guitarist and being able to finally play that riff makes me very happy inside ? I had a similar experience when I could finally play 'Closure' by Opeth. ? Does anybody else have these kinda experiences or am I a whack job??

Yeah, there are so so many versions out there!

I went with the good ol Hendrix version, found a really cool tutorial on youtube if you keen to have a look? ?

evolucian

Squonk... why don't you try the michael lee firkins one? Its rather cool... and not so difficult

Squonk

Thanks Evo

I actually had the first Michael lee Firkins. It was still on cassette, I think it was Shrapnel, Mike Varney's Label.

He used to endorse Yamaha, Good Player.

I am currently working on "I'm Alright", just love this song. I particularly like this little guy from Korea's (FunTwo) version, which is very close to the original Neil Zaza track.......... check it out......... ? I just love this guy's phrasing and tone.........awesome........

One day when I play it like this, I'll let you guys know!!!! (Maybe what I need is an ESP and a Peavey!!!!..Hahahahaha....... just kidding.....!

Stretch

lol @ the ESP/Peavey remark ?

That dude is awesome though!

I'm trying to learn SRV's Lenny, getting there....slowly! I will be blown away when i have it down ?

Awesome version, this dude is incredible....

He does some Clapton, Hendrix and John Mayer too.....one day i'll play like this.....although, maybe i need a Fender Custom Shop 1960 Stratocaster & Fender Super-Sonic 112 Combo.......oh wait, I DO NEED THOSE! ?

evolucian wrote then do yourself a favour and check out the watershed release.... mindblowing... best opeth... even though i really love face of melinda... this album is stunning

I am in love with that album! ? What I meant was that I started listening to them from damnation and deliverane, I've been a fan since then. I just haven't really listened to Blackwater Park and other earlier releases.

Had an eargasm when I got the Plug In Baby intro by Muse right.
