The night before Slavin a newish band by the name of Mantis Moon are at Tanz. This band grew out of the duo Little Black Hats formed by guitarist/composer Mike "Chappie" Sadie and violinist Waldo Alexander. "Chappie" is a good player and a boisterous, engaging front man. They now have a rhythm section and have added another guitar player.

Worth checking out.

Mike Slavin has been around a looooooong time. I first saw him playing when I was on a weekend pass from the army in Durban. He was playing with Luis Ribeiro's Palm Boat Band. One Denis Lalouette was on bass. This would have been 1977, maybe 1976.

I saw him more recently at TJs. He's a very good player.

Did anyone go to the Mantis Moon gig last night? Last I checked Waldo Alexander is the coolest violinist in the land, so I'm guessing it was pretty awesome (but alas, I live in CT)..?
