Well this has been a long time coming...
Last year a forum member contacted me to look at a broken Metal Muff, well broken it was and e-mails to and from EHX were not great and they wouldn't service me with schematics and wanted the pedal to be shipped back, though return shipping and repairs would cost more than the pedal... go figure... not to mention that the pedal was all SMD, a big downer for me >☹
Anyways, my suggestion was to gut the box and build in a new pedal. He wanted something 'high gainish' for Metal sounds and after some research I settled on the Dr. Boogey, a JFET clone of the Mesa Solo Rectifier, loud and in your face, perfect for this combo as the knobs are the same as the Metal Muff, well Dist is Gain and Top Boost is Presence, but the rest are the same.
It was a true labour of love to get the Jfets, parts and self etch the board, my first self etched board as I generally outsource this but there was no budget to do so. I etched 4 boards, got 2 great ones, one usable and one not, not bad for a first timer... though the Mrs. didn't appreciate me taking over the kitchen with the Ferric Chloride.
The results are shown below, I had to change all the knobs to black MXR style as the knobs that came with the pedal were all splinded and these pots are smooth shafted.

I didn't have my DAW handy but did manage to record this clip on my iPhone, which surprisingly records pretty well!
The amp is my '67 Bandmaster in a 2x12, Normal channel, Volume at 2, Treble/Bass both set to 6.
The pedal had a slight treble boost, the rest were at 12 o'clock, Distortion/Gain at about 2 o'clock.
