NAD: '65 Super reverb

Checked this amp out this afternoon, loved the sound and ended up taking it.
This is one heavy sucker but fits in my car so I'm happy ? I may take it to a tech to give it a once over. I need a diagram to see which tube is missing as well.

I did, that guitar has some serious mojo. I am not used to action that low but I like the toneon that guitar.
On a sidenote, what would a 62 strat go for in that condition?

Very cool! The missing valve is the GZ34 rectifier - easy to get and the JJs are probably the best new production. I'd probably change the power valves and phase inverter as a matter of course (the power valves look to be different brands anyway).

Coincidentally I was playing Mojo JoJoe's more modern Super (Pro Tube series) the other day, which he's considering selling. GREAT amp - very flexible with channel selection and a gain boost on tap from the footswitch. Alnico 10" speakers and a S/S rectifier like a Twin (which I like 'cos it's punchier).

Thanks Alan! I discovered some Sovtek 6L6's I had forgotten about. I think the amp needs to be reverted back from a solid state rectifier. I also need t buy one of those cap "trays" for safety reasons, replace the grill cloth and maybe a recap. I have a JJ rectifier tube I can use also, so not too much needed. Oh yes and I need some repro knobs.

Me too (11 for the BF Twin - same style). I also need a slider switch for a bright switch. So if you want to share an order from AES, just shout.

That is one lekker amp! Those 3 paper electrolytics are begging to be replaced and yes, I would also go with the new cover too. It looks like you have one too many filter caps in place as well. Usually only six are used under the tray.
It would also make sense to replace the six electrolytics inside the amp. They are smaller than the filter caps and cost much less.
New valves and a rectifier job and you'd be cooking, apart from the aesthetics.

Alan I was just going to order off Ebay, but that is a vry nice site! I will let you know as soon as I have my list completed.

Matta turned me on to them a while back as a Mojo alternative. Their knobs in particular are half the price of the ones you get elsewhere. And they have a 10% off sale until the end of the month.

But if you find somewhere on Ebay you're happy with, go for it. I'm in no rush anyway and will just order from AES later.

@Reinhard: I took another look at your pic of the filter caps and noticed that the blue ones are rated at only 450VDC.
I have seen this a few times with recap jobs. Most suppliers in SA only stock up to 450V and this is what is sometimes used....often with a few errant tweaks here and there to make it possible.

The original cap spec for your amp is 525VDC and the plate voltage should be around 465V, so the cap supplying the phase inverter anode resistors is probably on the edge.

OK - at the risk of baring my ignorance, why is this thread titled NAD: '65 Super reverb when the amp is a Fender and AFAIK NAD make "reasonably priced" home Hi-Fi equipment? ???

An acronym which is fairly common on a few other guitar forums.

NAD = New Amp Day
NGD = New Guitar Day
NPD = New Pedal Day
