Well thanks to all the help I recieved from this forum I'm the proud owner of a new amp and guitar.

Here's my horrid photo's:

My Roland Cube 15x

My Cort EVL Z4

Though I've been trying my hand at simple tapping with the guitar and I can't get a sound out of the amp when I hit the strings any idea?

Try your neck pick-up maybe.Make shure your pulling of with your tapping finger.(tap the note and flick your tapping finger to play the note your fretting with your left hand). More distortion always helps with tapping aswell.Also try to mute all the other strings your not playing, with your tapping hands palm

Thanks Wessels for the tip.

I've probably asked the most questions on this forum but as it stands I'm using the strings from when I recieved the guitar. Will it make a big difference if I put new strings on the guitar or get larger ones?

The strings would be fine. If you decide to drop your tuning it would be better to get thicker strings and adjust your guitar.But this is actually a question for Alan.

Always fit a brand new set, even if you get the guitar "new". The factory strings the guitar come with are rarely great strings to start with and you have no idea how long they have been on the guitar by the time you buy it. It's been strung up at the factory and then possibly warehoused for a few months before shipping. Shipping is a few months at sea and then there's a good chance it goes into storage here before going to the shop. If it's displayed at the shop, it may have hung on the wall for many more months, with all and sundry playing it.

Gauge doesn't really matter for tapping - it's down to personal preference.

Distortion or compression helps even out the volume differences in notes, but I don't advise it for practising. Rather learn to play it clean and with good even dynamics before you add on the effects, otherwise you don't hear where you are going wrong.

? I love those Roland Cube's. I have a 30x, a gr8t practice amp! It's unfair how easy u can get a sweet tone out of that thing...
