Any decent guitar shows/concerts etc this weekend in Gauteng?

My weekend plans have been cancelled so was wondering if anyone knows of any decent guitar shows/concerts/performances this weekend in Gauteng i.e. JHB Pretoria etc.

Not sure if my brother-in-law is playing anywhere this weekend....I'll check with him.

His name is Andre Liebenberg and he plays as part of a duet called Mischief.

Go to this place called Rustic Theatre in Fourways/Lonehill, it's a pretty cool chill spot where you can enjoy a few bevies and a chow while a variety of talent entertains into the night. I've only been once on a sunday evening but the ballie band that jammed was bloody good. Check their website to see what's happening.

yeah Racman, 3 gigs this weekend .........

fri night is prob the most fun......... it's at Tivoli's restaurant in Village walk mall in sandton(just upstairs from the blues room, next to the hotel) i play from 6-30 to 9 pm but what makes it fun i perform with my percussionist and we do a whole improv night....... truly just make it up as we go along, so just guitar and lots of percussion since we both play percussion ....... so very " Rio carnival" feel .... lots of fun and a fabulous restaurant

sat evening from 6 i play at carnival city casino , solo .... a great gig cos the casino just gets me set up in a walkway and appear to be busking.......... i love doing this gig, reminds me of my busking days in europe but least here the casino pays me ? only prob with coming to see me at this gig, there's no place to sit and take in the whole show...meant as entertainment for passing trade.......

then sunday lunch i will be doing a solo show at "1892 sinkhuis" in pretoria just a lunch time show........ from 1 ish into afternoon ....... this will be my 1st show here but seems quaint with an antique store attatched to the restaurant (012 329 0762 for bookings )

so yeah a busy weekend...... but thats how i like it .........

Well seeing as this is a chance for all of us to promote ourselves ?
I am playing at Back 2 Basix in Mellville on saturday. My band goes on at 10, there are two other bands that night as well. There seems to be a lot of people coming thru onthe event invite so should be fun

Rustic theatre closed til further notice ,,rebuilding hte kitched after a fire

Steve Coles is doing a show at a place called Woody's on Van Riebeck road in Edenvale next weekend on the 29th

I would say without any regret that I think he is the greatest guitarist I have ever met and will probably meet in my lifetime
So if you want to be treated to a master then go see that, im going to, and im quite exited ?

i never even got to meet you.... wowwhat a pity ....... it was a quiet night thanks to rain and long weekend ussually it's packed to the seams inside and outside .......so we missed the buzz of a full house this week......... the rain and cold was nasty last night...... we even finished at 8-30 last night and just had dinner ourslves...... i was looking forward to meeting you ..... so pity you never said hi ........ oh well next time and hope you liked the improv..... it can get a bit out there at times and at times it's quite magical, which is the attraction of course........ no two shows are ever the same for the audience or us the performers ....

My wife and I were the couple by the window on your left close to the stage but probably a little hidden by the percussion. We unfortunately had to leave at about 8:15pm due to an unforseen emergency (damn those cell phones - work is always present!! >☹)- was going to wait until ater the set to meet and chat.

Anyway, next time coffee and dessert is on us - deal?

well hope it was not a major emergency, but yes now i remember who you were, .... and yeah still love to hook up and talk guitars over coffee.... and yes dessert mmmmmm no not dessert i'm picking up way too much weight ?, keen to hear more re your build........

Will do - work emergency is always critical. Was looking forward to a great evening but at least I got to hear most of your set. My wife loved the playing as well by the way.

Tanz Cafe's web site advertises a fab triple bill of Steve Newman, Greg Georgiades and Albert Meintjies. Date advertised is "Friday, 23 May 2010" - and I'll be very surprised if that date comes around. I was going to call them to find out if they meant Friday 21st May or Sunday 23rd May. Then I read the Saturday Star over lunch and found out that the gig had been on Friday 23 APRIL!
