The Jazz Guitar Chords eBook (Attached)

I just skimmed through this ebook and it was very easy to follow. There's a lot of good info in here in a very short space but without being hard to follow or hard to use.

It includes a bunch of chord diagrams at the end as a sort of cheat-sheet and also has a little bit of homework (to make sure you really 'get' the concepts in the book).

These chords are not reserved for jazz music. They are used in all genres of music and learning these chords will add flavour to any music you play.

agree with PeteM on this one - this chord 'theory' is not reserved for jazz wannabes or practitioners. i took lessons for a while with tony russell, a pretty well known and respected jazz player and teacher. this is precisely the kind of stuff we put into my playing. turning chords inside out, looking at them as built on scale tones, pretty much turned my playing on its head. had i continued with tony, as i should have, i would have been 10 times the player i am today. this 'theory' had an impact on my blues, my soloing, my general mucking around, my acoustic stuff, everything - including my composition and piano work. this will give you a deeper understanding of how notes and chords come together, which is invaluable.

now, why 'theory' and not just theory, without the ''? well, coz it's not theory. it's logic. broken down to the 'one step at a time' level, like it is in this ebook, anyone with even a vague, passing interest in chord structure, should be able to see and follow this logical progression. and it's as priceless as a mastercard. oddly enough, though, theory is logic. if you're interested in theory, it's also pretty much logic. you just need to be interested enough to be able to have it broken down for you (or by you) to that 'one step at a time' level.
