Jap Tokai guitars are no doubt (according to the many testimonials) very good quality and good sounding instruments. However I often wonder why their logo resembles the Gibson logo from a distance...also on their tele, the logo resembles that of Fender...? Or is this just in the eye of the beholder?
I think it is. I'll post a headstock pic sometime soon. It does resemble the early Gibson logo - you know the one that says, "The Gibson," much like Heritage guitars. But that is not, of course, the brand that people associate with Gibson. It's the very straight, angular logo that everyone knows. The Tokai logo on Gibson style guitars is cursive.
They used to, in the eighties, use the 7okai logo on their Fender clones. No longer. That aspect of copyright - actually allowing people to imagine that their replica guitars are made by the original manufacturer, is no longer an issue imo. Tokai has never sought to con people into thinking that it's a Gibson being played, or hanging in the shop. They're justifiably proud of their reputation.
