Gibson 1959 Les Paul ...'exact replica' build thread

That's amazing! Thanks for sharing! ?

This is my idol and almost mentor when it comes to luthiery btw. Read every one of his build logs. Man is AMAZING.

I'm fussy about '50s Les Pauls. They were made with solid 1-piece mahogany backs. They weren't gutted like this one >☹ . They used (usually) light weight mahogany backs which contributed to the woody resonance of those guitars and modern replicas as compared with the later ones made from heavyweight mahogany.
I don't think chambering is bad per se (I don't think anyone thinks it shouldn't be optional on a hefty guitar like an LP) - and I assume he did it because he can't face the weight of even an LP with a hand-picked, lightweight, Honduras Mahogany back, which is quite fair enough - but it doth not an "exact replica" make.
To me it's like a "replica '57 Strat" with an SG body ?

Truly amazing link above - thanks!. I'm utterly captivated. It's going to take me weeks just to read through the whole thing.
I'm just wondering why he's documenting the build to the minutest detail, not that I'm complaining though! I mean, most would keep the trade secrets just that.

Ah. Ok. Saw the chambers, sighed, and moved on. Excuse my ranting.

This is posted on a telecaster forum though :-[

This is his first Gibson. He actually does Fender replicas, and plays bass. ?

What a power thread... only halfway through and I've already learned so much.
Impressive and inspirational.

This guy also made his own LP. Nice!
