I'm about to buy blind - is anyone going to talk me out of it?

I'm about to order a Schecter C-1 Hellraiser without having played it. I've been in love with this guitar for months now, but no shops I go to have any in stock. What I have played in the shops is an ESP LTD mh-1000 deluxe which is often compared in reviews to the Hellraiser. The major difference between the two is that the Hellraiser has a thicker neck apparently. I'm not too worried about the thicker neck as I am used to my epi les paul.

Does anyone think doing this is a really bad idea? The only reason I'm not getting the LTD is because I can't get the model in the same finish with a fixed bridge.

Will I be disappointed? I've never seen a bad review of this Schecter. Has anybody here played one before?

If yo're the kind of guy who has to play five of the same model guitar to choose the best one, then no. ?

But occasionally you have to take a leap of faith. Sometimes it pans out as expected, other times it doesn't (I'm one of the "try five" guys and have bought three guitars unseen in recent memory, and one was still a keeper). It at least like you have done your homework, which is the best you can do. The Schecters at least seem quite constent in their build quality.

as alan says if you fussy about your sound.....DO NOT BUY BLIND.......... COS we all know no two guitars of even the same make and model are 100% tonally identical, similar yes, but never identical, but if you one of those people that gas after a certain shape /look ect then buy it, or if its an investment then i see no prob buying blind......... i NEVER would buy blind but thats just me

This is the only guitar that looks exactly how I want it to so I think I'll risk it. The ESP LTD and the Hellraiser are made with the same wood for the body (mahogany) and the fretboard (rosewood). Also the same EMG pickups are used in both guitars except the Hellraiser has a coil-tappable function. Both have the same scale and have set-thru neck construction as well. So I think playing the ESP should be a good reference... I hope ? I'm gonna order it over the weekend. ?

Hey doctor, I probably don't need to tell you what I think. Most in-shop guitars are so badly setup they don't give you any real reference of playing that instrument anyway. Do it!! \m/

Haha well no I don't really ? I just thought I'd mention the guitar I was getting to see if I got any 'no don't buy that guitar I'd rather gouge my eyes out than play it' responses. ?

I'm getting it through Marshall Music in Hillcrest. I know you bought from take2 if I remember correctly, but Marshall's price is R500 cheaper plus they're giving me a free hard case. Stoked! ?

Good stuff. Buying through a local contact point (online or shopfront) is so much better than direct from overseas imo. The nailbiting suspense of "will it arrive broken, or at all" is their problem, not yours. Take2 was attractive for me 'cos they're in CT where I am, this sounds much better for your specific situation.

I think you'll be happy. I do need to point out though, that guitar has only six strings, surely an oversight on your part??? HAHAHA

Haha definitely NOT an oversight! ? Six strings give me enough challenges as it is. I think I'll wait a few more years until I graduate to 7... or 8! I've never even played anything with more than 6 strings, so buying blind like that could lead to disaster ?
