? i 've found out that percussion can cost from cheap to a fortune depending on the quality ect ect .no different from guitars they all have different tone too so just shop and when you get to the djembe or cajon which has the tone you want buy it ......... and remember a djembe comes in many sizes and all have distinctive feels and tones ...... so find out what you need for your sound and buy the one closest to that ......
marshall music has a good drum dept and last i was there they had cajons...from about R1500 upwards (the drum dept at marshall in woodmead is downstairs ... and i'm sure many people miss it cos the entrance is quite obscured but they have a whole floor of drums/perc) ...
TOMS in sandton also has a way cool drum dept ...... i'm sure music connection in randburg does too

Hmm...OK thanks Kiera.

There are many different kinds of djembes with different tones & characteristics.
I've boiled my collection down to 3 - and all quite different.
e.g. loud cutting solo sound vs. more complex timbres at lower volumes.
Send me a PM and we can discuss ...
