vintage vibe golden age

hey all.

so i tired of the same old jb and 59 sound and thought id try some other pups in my idol 66. I was lucky enough to get my hands on these vintage vibe golden age pups on a trial basis and if i like them i could buy them.

so... installed them today. They are R 750 each. the models i got are the hotter wound ones. My meter measures the output at 12.44ko. Thats less than the jb (17ko) but more than super 58s (10ko).

1st impressions, rich dynamic and mellow cleans. Nice output and warm sounding. On overdrive it is oh sooo fat sounding. again nice warm tones.. not as harsh sounding as the duncans. a nice vintage sound

couldnt find much on the net about these. Anyone else tried them out? they seem to be made by stewmac.

please comment if you have heard these

i think i like.. even if they arent a well known make. im certainly pleasantly surprised. i believe they use alnico 5s.

Golden Age are Stewmac's own pickup brand, but Vintage Vibe is a custom winder by the name of Pete Biltoft (he custom wound my bass' humbuckers for me) - his pickups are often characterised by magnets that are easily swapped out.

I think what you have are the Overwound Golden Age Pickups - they measure out at 12K.

yeh that souds right Alan ..the description is golden age - vintage vibe.. didnt realise that vintage vibe was also a brand in its own right.

been playing this morning again and listening with fresh ears.. i do like these. theyre definitely warm sounding.. nice rich tones and nice string definition. Its bizarre, i never saw myself as a " gear snob" but i have this strange thing going on in my head that these pups put me off because of their brand name, yet they are making all the right sounds.. literally

id love to hear them in a different guitar but certainly in a mahogany backed, maple capped guitar they really do shine.

they are sweeter and richer sounding than the super 58s and less "in your face" than the seymours that was in the guit.

they doing it for me. excellent bang for buck
