Hi,
I'm currently playing through an overdrive pedal on my Blackstar HT-5 (5 watt valve, two channels, effects loop, no reverb, shared eq). Its fantastic, but I realised that its not quite loud enough (the clean breaks up way too early) for jamming with drums and other bigger amps (perfect bedroom amp), so I've decided to upgrade to a 20 Watt Blackstar (20 watt valve, 12" speaker, two channels, seperate eq, has reverb, effects loop etc.) when they arrive here (end of the month apparently). I also want to get a delay, wah and tuner pedal.
Now, I have some questions:
1. Will a 20 Watt be loud enough for playing with a band? I reckon it will be. Anyone with experience? DannyB plays on a 20 and it seems fine. Am I right?
2. What do I need to look for in getting a wah and delay?
On the delay side, I know you get delay and looping in most delay pedals. I'm thinking of using the delay for kind of short delay to fatten up the sound a bit and to use the looping feature. What do I need to look for when I try out delay pedals? How much looping buffer should I want? i.e. 20s? 120s?
On the Wah side, Is it worth getting a wah with different settings e.g. Buddy Guy/Slash sig Crybaby or a basic one e.g. Vox 847 (?). Which ones do you prefer and why?
These are n00bish questions, I have little experience with effects. Your input will be of tremendous help.
The tuner pedal is not a big issue, I've heard good things about the Korg Pitchblack and its fairly cheap so I'll prob go that way.
Cheers

Yup, I play a 20W Lionheart, through a 2x12. I played it on a large stage, and had to keep the clean volume on 4. PA's do the rest...so you shouldn't have any trouble ?

Oh and for wah I use a Dunlop 535Q Crybaby. What I like most about it is that it has a switchable and variable boost, which works well to make the wah really jump out when you turn it on.

It does depend on the amp, but 20-25W is usually perfect for a band/small venue situation. Loud enough for the cleans to hang with the band, but not so loud that you overpower the band when you crank it for some output tube drive.
Wahs are personal. Hard to go wrong with a Crybaby, but there are lots of options and we all have different taste. So try 'em and decide. Many good delays about, from the Boss DD-20 up through the EH Memory Man to the TC Nova Delay and the Eventide Timefactor. Features and tones differ, so there's some personal choice there too. Not all have looping, but that's something best done by a dedicated looper anyway, so if a delay pedal has it, it's more of a bonus (and usually a little limited in comparison).

I have been playing my 22watt Mesa Boogie 1x12 combo for many months on stage with a technical metal band! it sure has the power and amplitude!
I highly recommend low watt tube amps!! mine does fine - it does tend to still break up quite early tho! - many factors (high gain apreamp, high output active pickups etcc...)
ther are ways around this, at some stage you should get a external speaker cab (my 2x12 is arriving custom made tomrow!) for a fuller and louder sound and maybe a lower gain tube in the preamp to tame the gain so you can get the amp cranked loud and still have a cleaner sound!
in terms of wah - that buddy guy sig sounds awesome hey, gonna go test it out tomorrow!
line 6 do great in terms of delay hey!
thast my 2 cents eh! ?
