Bang for buck cans?

I need new headphones. For practising guitar through a sim, some light recording applications, computer games etc. I was wondering if anyone happened to know of a pair that provides a lot of good sound for very little money. I'm in no mood to get grade-A, top-o-the-line stuff right now. Just something I might find in a hi-fi store for probably less than R500 that can get me more than half way there. Oh. Comfortable for long periods of wear, too.

Any help would, as always, be deeply appreciated.

I have a set of Senhauser (spelling?) HD202's which cost me around R400 if I recall. ?

The cheaper Sennheisers are always quite good. They don't take abuse well, but sound quality is surprisingly good.

If you need closed back cans, you're going to have to double the budget though...

those HD202's mentioned are closed. I also have a pair - very good IMO

Contact Matt at MusicMadness on the forum. They do Senheiser and I've had good trans with them for other stuff.

They are a bit boomy IMO and get really hot but they are well worth the bucks.

Cool guys. Many thanks. I'll check these out. Like I said, I'm not too fussed if they can't compete with the cans Eddie Kramer uses. So this sounds like a great option.

Cool. I can find the Sennheiser HD 202s online for R450. Sounds like a plan.

You think they deliver? The cheapest I could find in SA online was R480. What really galls me is that on B&H they're $25. Problem is, the shipping costs seem to have increased. So the postage will cost more than the item. Very annoying. It becomes tricky buying anything under $300 with these high postage costs.

But R380 I could live with quite happily.

Silly question, but have you tried the music stores? I know Bothner's Plumstead usually keeps a fair range of the Sennheiser stuff. The other stores probably do too. If you're a regular, you'll probably be able to wheedle a decent discount too.

I'm really not a regular ? But I need to go pick up the muse magazine, so I'll ask them what they can do me the cans for at Plumstead. My last major purchase I got seriously burned on an SM57 relative to buying it from the states (about double what I would have paid) but I was in a hurry.
