Riaan-Combrink Interesting article postulating that the word tremelo arm is functionally incorrect and should read vibrato arm. And blames Leo Fender for the historical inaccuracy to boot!!! No idea of this guys' credentials and/or veracity of story, but interesting read. Riaan C http://www.articledashboard.com/Article/Why-The-Tremolo-Arm-Is-Misnamed/446398
AlanRatcliffe It's all true. Leo also called the tremolo effect on his amps vibrato - so he got both backwards.
sepheritoh Interesting. The article however does not aswer it's own question, i.e. why did Leo get it wrong?
sepheritoh Manfred Klose wrote He basically invented it, so leo fender can call it what ever he wants to. LOL ?
AlanRatcliffe There were other vibrato arms before the Strat's Synchronised Tremolo (Bigsby vibrato tailpiece, amongst others). I think Leo may have wanted his to sound like it was different, so he gave it a different name. When it came to the amps, He had already used tremolo for his vibrato bridge, so was forced to call amp tremolo vibrato.
