Guitar GAS pales into insignificance compared to studio GAS.
Ah...wanna know how many plugins I've got for Sonar? Luckily the studio hardware GAS hasn't gotten to me...yet! And that's only because I don't know what all those cool looking rack mounted thingies are supposed to do.
My hardware has gradually decreased over the years - I do as much in the box as possible. My rack has shrunk down from 18U to 5U, and is mostly interfaces, synths and FX have all gone.
Plugins I tossed out all the different stuff a year ago and bought once wisely (Waves Mercury bundle) and stick with that - better to have one compressor that I know intimately than 10 I don't. Same with softsynths - Native Instrument's Komplete (half of which I don't install) and a few good sample libraries.
