I dont know any forums for this kind of stuff so maybe someone here is a vet or something. I found a shrew on the creepy pipe in my pool. he is shivering and I've got him in a box. Actually I dont know if it's a boy or a girl. I am going to play golf now and when I get back I want some suggestions. You know, like a little mouse but with a pointy nose. He isnt movong quick.

Vet - if you can afford it for a found shrew. He or she is probably hypothermic, eh? Needs to get warm. May die of shock anyway though... poor little mite.

They eat goggas though, don't they? And worms.

But you should do what it takes, if for no other reasons than to be able to tell, "The Taming of the Shrew," jokes at parties. ?

Try give it a couple of milliliters of luke warm suger. I usually do that to combat shock with birds I find. Also helps with dehydration...

If it's still alive (I suppose you're back from golf ? ) just put it out in the garden...do not handle the little one. That will cause even more stress... Let us know please.

PS: Ray, were you not looking for a Danelectro a while ago...? I seem to recall that you mentioned the make..?

Ja the oke is alive. Locked the dogs up and put him in the garden. Called the vet and he said that's about the best thing to do. On the internet somewhere they say they ar insectivorious and eat worms as well. I dont have worms. I'll check what he does. Also, says they like damp sort of areas. Everywhere is damp so that's no problem. I'll check him a while.

and here are my Yamahas:

These fellas, when they are all stressed up need some help. They don't eat whole worms when stressed. You will have to chew the worms first and then feed it to the fella.

I've never seen one of these things before...actually never even heard of them ???

are you talking about the guitars? ?

Ray

So he wasnt coping outside and I got him in again. And he didnt look like he was happy even after I got him a kind of an insect and a worm. So I drove off to the vet and noone was there. And when I looked again he was dead. Ag anyway, I think it's hard to keep a wild animal alive. Just when we got him earlier he looked like he wasnt doing well, shivering and all. Maybe at that time I should have just left him out somewhere. It's just terrible how things just hang and then just stop.

I guess as long as we continue to try rescuing them that's the main thing ... Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.

For those you have to chew the worms that try to eat them.

You know, he could have had serious internal damage - the adrenaline keeps him alive until it wears off. Nothing you could have done in that case...

Never seen one in real life either. Fascinating bunch of critters. One of the shrews is the smallest kind of mammal that exists today. All those sensitive little whiskers help them find insects, grubs, worms, whatever, in leaf-mulch and stuff. There's one kind that I saw on a David Atternborough show, that develops a little race-track on its nightly route - so that it knows every turn and obstacle - giving it a big advantage when running like the dickens away from would-be predators.

yes i agree lindsmuse ....... long as we show untiring compassion to the creatures of our world like Ray did even if the attempt is unsuccessful the next few times might be victories and so never stop caring.

awesome ray you a good man

What helps if the animal is cold is a bottle filled with hot water for them to cuddle up to. My brother has done that before and it got better in no time.
