This is in A minor and it's a VERY useful way to expand your pentatonic sound to something other than the usual 2-note per string licks we all seem to get stuck with ?
NorioDS
Oh and before I get into trouble!
This is from www.BrettGarsed.com. He's quite a smart guy ?
FatBoy
um, I don't see any lesson?
NorioDS
Eish, I'll fix that. Thanks!
FatBoy
Cool, thanks Norio ?
NorioDS
You're welcome dude ? Enjoy!

Pretty cool lesson, Norio ?
Cheers

Yeah, it kicks ass, doesn't it? I must admit I haven't practised it but it looks like a great way to get out of box playing.
I love 3-note-per-string scales. Not good at using them yet, but I love them.
arjunmenon
Yeah, it definitely kicks ass and i think it could be a great way out of box and shape based soloing (although knowing all your notes in a particular position is a great thing for getting improvisational in a jazz context a la Wayne Krantz).
On the same subject, this past Saturday, Guy got me hooked on to 5 and 6 notes per string licks (i.e. left hand fingers 1, 2, 3, 4 and right hand middle, ring and pinky on the fretboard). That definitely was a revelation to me and i've been practising that like crazy for the past 3 days. I'm also trying to focus on sweeping+tapping+picking technique. So practise and chops wise, i feel like i'm getting better.
Next weeks focus is gonna be all of this and whammy work..he he..wish me luck! ?
NorioDS
Cool stuff man! You guys are way more advanced than me. Would be cool to get together and learn from you.
Wessel
Cool exercise! I have also experimented with the 5 to 6 note per string licks. Can you maybe put an example of your tipe of licks using this technique ? I am going to put up my examples soon. Some sweeps sweeps with miltiple taps also.Cool sound with simple technique
arjunmenon
@ Norio: Gimme a shout when you're in CPT. I'm sure i can pick u up from the airport..and ur more than welcome to crash over at my place (once you get past the animals..he he) ? And about the whole advanced thing, i feel like a noob everyday (helps me approach the instrument in a totally different frame of mind)
@ Wessel: No problemo. Will try and put up a few examples over the weekend. Say, who are the players that you're most influenced by? My buddy Guy has got me hooked on Guthrie Govan, Rusty Cooley, Richie Kotzen and Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal...along with the usual suspects i listen to.
Cheers
Guy-Onraet
Yo Wessel, i'll try put up some clips before the weekend, otherwise on Monday fo sho.
Wessel
I was mostly influenced by All the usaul shred guys like Michael Angelo Batio , Yngwie , Jason Becker . But after a while when i had the speed down . I started to play Chuck Berry stuff that was more soulful and also a lot of Iron Maiden stuff. Now I am realy influenced by death and black metal players like Muhammed suicmez of Necrophagist.

Arjun,
We've got no problems with animals ? We've got 4 cats, 1 dog and 3 rats. If we had more space, we'd DEFINITELY have more! We love giving them a good home and taking care of them. They make much nicer companions than humans ?
arjunmenon
Ha ha..well said Norio. I've got 4 dogs, 5 cats and 1 dwarf bunny. I grew up with animals in the house, and i've reached the conclusion that they make excellent companions and friends. ?
Renesongs
I'll see your 4 cats, 1 dog and 3 rats and raise you 2 dogs, 1 budgie, 3 prey mantises and a pubescent teenager.
BTW I checked out the 3-Note Per String Pentatonics - not for me really - prefer the economy of motion approach which is basically stay in the box - I teach modes which is basically learning the box shape in one key for every part of the neck. Lately I have been refined this to learning only the root major box and the natural minor box and combining them together and applying it to all scales Pentatonic, Blues, Classical Major, Harmonic Minor, Be-Bop 7th etc. When I have finished this approach and tested it on my advanced students I will post it as lessons on this forum.

Awesome! Soon we can add a video-lessons section here and have all sorts of coolness from our members.

Uhh, not so fast Sherlock, I live in this dinky little town called South Africa where data communications are dominated by the greedy goblin Hellkom , his evil twin Vodascum, and elder sister Poison Ivy. For a princes ransom I am allocated 1 miserable gigabyte of data usage a month, so sorry no videos until who knows when?
