No worries, multifx were "Actually" designed to be used like that. Thank goodness people like Shaunf are shedding some light.

I tinkered with some tones over the weekend,and I think I'm getting there. Alan and AJB's suggestions were spot on. ?

Strange I could not fall a sleep last night so I plugged in my VAMP2 ( which I bought when they came out ..but never really got to know) but instead of plugging into the AUX of the amp I plugged in my headphones and JEEEEEPERS ? !!!!

what a difference that made, so I started paging though that "white book looking" thing that no one seems to read. and ALAKAZAM it all became clear as day..... seems I skipped everything between the covers. Just the difference between Studio 1 -3 to Live 1-3 is immense

Agreed the VAMP2 is not as advanced as the GT's, but it has a lot going for it/me. I found that playing with the CABs, AMP's, EQing, Drive, Reverb and a small amount of effects, one can get a pretty damn good own sound going.... In any case who wants to sound like SRV, I can safley say he does not want to sound like me .

The combinations are endless, which is often THE problem.... for me Less is more - but I am no expert. but I can say that I will be getting to know this device a lot better , So another lesson learnt . RTFM (read the Frigging Manual) !!!!

Attila, I started reading the GT-10 manual last night. After 2 hours I realized that I will need another 2 month to go everything ?

Like you I also hate reading manuals, but I'm forcing myself to read this one!!!

For all the GT owners if you download the GT editor you can make your own patches, save them as a .syx file and share them.

AFAIK the GT10 has USB connectivity but with the GT8 you need a MIDI interface. I bought the Midisport UNO USB to MIDI connector and it is awesome.

There's just nobody to share patches with... :-\

I just got my GT10, spent the last 2 hours going through the first 40 banks.
There is just too much to take in! I will setup my software this weekend and start messing around.

Will send you some PM when I get some stuff made up ?

I found a web site with some insane patches!!!
The one that stands out is a Metallica patch. If you like the black album, well all I can say is that it is 100% spot on!

Will post it tomorrow.

Back to the topic:
I think running the GT-10 into the effects loop to bypass the Marshall's preamp is a bad idea.
Either I'm a moron or it just sucks! The tone sounded crappy and empty. It was almost as if the power valves decided, screw you for doing this to me!

The GT-10 into earphones sounds amazing, and I'm sure through monitors it will rock.
So the GT-10 into the effects loop for chorus, delay etc. sound great (the reason I got it in the first place)!

I agree 100%. It tone sounded very lifeless. I preferred the tone I got from plugging it guitar into pedal into amp.

There are specific 'output type' settings for headphones , etc......Have you set that specific setting correctly ?..........just asking

Hi Joel, Yes I tried all the output types. I made sure I selected a preamp as well. Still sounded crap!
I just think that multi-fx pedals were not designed for valve amps ?

The GT-10 is still the coolest toy I have bought! I can practice when I want where I want!
I can't wait to get studio monitors to use with the GT-10

Did any of you on the forum struggle to upload patches to the GT-10?
I will start a new thread tomorrow discussing all the tricks I have learn't ?

Lean, go to the pedal fx/settings and make sure send/return is turned on. Also, use the 4 cable method. Lastly, remember that whats programmed to sound good direct might not work for a power amp and cab.
So if you want to use preamps and cab sims, you need to choose which preamp to use with which cab. Mic type, etc. Remember, just as in the real thing, not every amp will sound good with every drive etc.
Lastly, but perhaps most important, the eq! make sure that the eq is offsetting the natural frequency of the actual cab you are using.
Direct sounds good, but you can make the gt sound good through an amp with a bit of tweaking.

Do you run it before the amp, or put it in the amps effects loop?

Usually in front as most FX work best or at least OK into an amp - especially if you want to use the MFX's drive or wah. The big exception is reverb, but as long as the amp has a decent one, that's not the end of the world. Sometimes you want modulation, delay or pitch effects in the loop too. So at the end of the day, it's really down to which effects from your MFX you want to use.

Of course, if you can live without your amp's preamp, you can do everything except speaker modelling on the Vox and plug the output into the amp's return - effectively bypassing the preamp on your guitar amp and just using the amp's power amp and speaker(s) to amplify what you're getting from the Vox.

I'm currently running my GT10 as follows:

Guitar - into input
GT10 send into amp's input
Mono output from GT10 into amp's return
Amp's send into GT10 return

Seems to work pretty well for me. I use this to actually bypass my amp's pre-amp etc. and use the GT10 preamp.
