I'm always
very dubious about Squiers. I played Squier Teles twice. Both were rubbish and not even on the same continent as MIM Teles. If you buy Fender, you should probably look for second hand guitars (especially since Fenders are almost indestructible).
Here's another thought - especially if you want MIA quality and the choice of woods, but can't face paying the much higher prices: PM TokaiSA about what Tokai BreezySounds he's got in his stash, or where they're selling. Most of the new ones (besides some weird anomalies I've seen on fora) have a slightly altered head-stock shape from Fenders, but the build quality is apparently up with everything else Tokai does. In other words, flawless. And of course, up until recently, they had a fat part of the contract to make the MIJ Fenders - so they're hungry to prove they were holding back ?
Certainly look in that direction before considering a Squier. Yes, they'll be more expensive, but if you want that vintage Telecaster mojo...
