He's the main reason I got into add9 chords. I was very much into Copeland as well. A very different guitarist for the time, it's never mentioned, but his lead playing is very reminiscent of Robert Fripp.

Fanboy! I wondered if you'd ever find this thread.

Great great player...IMO, one of the better proponents of minimalism..does whats appropriate to the song. Copeland was the main reason i got into the police..and then andy summers just blew me away..sorta punk meets rock meets jazz meets blues meet pop feel to his playing.
Cheers

All,
Ever since I saw the youtube video for the Fender Custom Shop Andy Summers Telecaster, I've wanted it.
But it's $10k >☹, and I'm not spending that kind of dough on a guitar. So my plan is to buy an Fender American Standard Telecaster and mod the ever-living hell out of it. Here's what I've found so far on the net:
- Brass bridge
- Schaller Tuner
- Mint Green Pickguard
- Gibson '57 Classic Plus Humbucker
I'm still kind of lost on what preamp/overdrive to use. I found the EMG Afterburner, but I don't know if this will provide the sound I'm looking for. Any ideas? ??? Any input is appreciated!

Vintage Vibe will no doubt be able to tell you more than you want to know on that one ?

Thanks, Alan. I've contacted Vintage Vibe and hopefully they'll be able to help me with finding the right circuitry. ?
AlanRatcliffe
Gareth (VV) is as much of an Andy Summers nut as you get, and also tends to be very analytical about guitars and tones, so I'm sure he can help.

Someone contacted me ?!?
When was I going 2 find out ?
AlanRatcliffe
Have you checked your PMs under "My Messages"
FenderBender
Been buggering around with add9 chords for the past 3 hours. So simple yet so unique. Andy is a genius ?
Vintage-Vibe
Alan: Didn't c it in my messages ! Odd ?
AlanRatcliffe
Hmmm. You'd have to ask mrmorrison - maybe he's confused you with someone else?
Either way - just answer the thread over on the Repairs & mods forum. I hate seeing topics without responses there ?
mrmorrison
LOL, I searched the net for Vintage Vibe and found a guitar place that specialized in sound. I thought that's what you had meant. Wow, what a brainfart. They replied telling me "we can't help you with this." ? :-[ Anyhow, Gareth, can you help me with this? ?
AlanRatcliffe
Brainfart indeed. LOL! I actually know him! That's Pete Biltoft, A very good pickup maker in the US (he made the custom humbuckers for my bass).
Gareth, you remember I told you that someone else was using the name Vintage Vibe when you signed up here? That's the guy.

What year is his Tele? I saw him use a ES335 Gibson on the Police Tour for 2 songs.
