Playing guitar made me discover a lost passion!

Hey guys. Newbie to the forum and beginner guitar player here. I'm 19 years old and have been playing for about 8 months now. I've always had a huge passion for music, but I never was much of a player of an instrument until I finally took the plunge and bought me a guitar. At first I got frustrated because it seemed terribly hard to just get past the basics, but I stuck it out and I'm very glad I did. I never really had alot of hobbies, but playing guitar has really taken me by storm! I can just play all day long! Heck, I'm even practising on a saturday night (I'm usually out at this time)! I'm disappointed I didn't start at an earlier age. I'm still a super beginner though, but can play a few songs - I'll be playing "Greenday - Time of your life" on my sister's wedding in May.

So, what I want to know from u guys is how do u actually make it as a guitar player/singer? The thing is, I have no idea if I'm any good. I've played in front of family members and they all think I'm good and all, but honestly, what kind of family actually critisizes another family member about something they love...

Are you in JHB? You should really come to TJ's acoustic club! That way you get a great feel for what the standard is set at!

How do you make it in the music industry? By bringing something new and unique to the table. And being completely dedicated of course. Keira and I were talking about this the other day - she said she could never see herself doing anything other than being a pro musician. That is the attitude and state of mind you should have - no doubt!

Yeah, BUT keira is a flippin good musician... The reality is, you need to be skilled and a great performer. Also depends on what you want to get into. If you're into the jazzy/classical scene like Keira, then ability is everything.

If you wana be a rockstar, you just have to look cool.. ?

As a beginner....if you can play "This land is your land" properly while singing it, you're OK . ? If not, then I'm affraid.... ☹ ...back to the drawing board.
