Backing tracks

My friend and I want to cover the Joe Satriani song "surfing with the alien" for a talent show. He's on rythm, I'm on lead. We don't have a drummer or a bassist so we might need a backing track for that. Does anyone know where I can get one???

Yeah, I'm sure the rhythm guitarist can play over that. Usually the track is for just one person, the lead guitarist (aka Satriani's part) and the rest is done on the cd. But I'm sure it'll sound cool if 2 of you jam over it. ?

On that note, I'd think that Always With Me would be a better choice for a talent comp. Judges tend to respond to the lyrical, melodic instrumentals more than they do to the more technically skilled ones.

Oooooooooo. Just listened to it. Awesome song! I'd like that backing track too if you don't mind. Now I ight be a noob about this, but don't you think that song will sound good even if it were just the two guitars with no backing track? You really thinks the judges would appreciate that song more?

I'll definitely let yo know how it went. Luckily it's only in May. The thing is though the first round is on the 3rd, the second round is on the 5th and the fourth is on the 7th. If I'm planning to go right to the end, I'm going to need two other songs that would sound good in a electric guitar, duet situation. The one guitar must almost be on rythm (as the other guy is yet confident with highly complex songs) and the other one not too complex because I have to play it! Any suggestions?

Well, you're starting off well going for a Satch number, if you can pull him off, well done... However, the reality is, most people, like alan said will prefer a good performance over a good technical piece. So youtube a couple songs and see if guys have come up with arrangements and try copy those. Youtube guitar duets.

Maybe do the cannon rock? Or another classical piece, plenty of duets that sound awesome with two electric guitars.
