Guitar wood for first build

Hi all, this is my first post!! ive wanted to build a SB guitar for years now and ive finally decided to go ahead. Ive got my neck but im confused as to what sort of wood to use for the body. Ive googled and seen a lot of basswood and swamp ash wood being recomended. Any good south african wood i can use? will Pine work? or an equivalent? Brian

I went to both Country Woods & Rare Woods today.
Could find almost nothing suitable for a one-piece body.
Majority of wood is 228mm wide ... which just isn't enough.

Only wood I could find which was thick enough & wide enough was a piece of Ash.

Yep - I spent a long time looking for a nice piece of Oregon Pine for my tele, and eventually I realised that second hand wood is your best bet - back in the day, it seems timber sizes were larger :?
