I use a hotrod deluxe now and then at church, just keep the volume pretty low. Haven't had any problems and it has a sweet sound!
Sometimes I miss the "feel" of the amp when its too low (its funny, it just feels like you have nothing to play with, i.e. no where to go with your sound, if that makes sense)
I like a clean valve amp sound and then work from there with pedals. The main pedals I use are Fulltone Fulldrive II (OD) and a Boss DD20 for delay. When I don't use the hotrod I use a Blackheart Little Giant combo (around 4K), 5W valve with 12" speaker, great little amp but doesn't quite have the hotrod sweetness ? i miss reverb on it too.
I would really recommend the fulldrive, especially since you can get direct from US, since they are not available here. I still want to get hold of a Fulltone OCD to try at some stage as well. ? cough.
So my vote is tube amp with a few pedals too...
As Alan says, a tube amp does make everything sound better!

After much reading and reviewing, I think I have narrowed it down to 3 possibilities.
The reason I have put stomp boxes on hold is because I'm afraid I may always want more, where as a multi effects should cover me for a little while. I think? ???
So, my three options are. The TC electronics Nova System. The TC electronics G-Major 2. OR the Rocktron Expression.
Anyone got any experience with the Rocktron?
I like the Nova System the most at this point, so it's the direction I'm steering, however, I'm still trying to convince myself it's worth going the rack route, just because it looks so dam cool! ?

The last Rocktron unit I owned was one of the original Rockmans. Very 80's rock. ?
I still say the Nova System will work best in your situation.

Nova system it is! ? Will keep ya'll posted when I get it. So, now I just need a nice tube amp. I need to go and play some. But, I'm pretty sure I want a fender, if i can afford one. ?
