I checked it out, did not have time to play it, posted a topic, got the answer I was looking for ('no, this is a normal price for a non-Jap model') and moved on. If there is a LP on my path, it probably will arrive into my workshop as pieces of Honduras Mahogany, Flame Maple and Ebony. Or I might stumble upon a good deal like buying a Jap Tokai for a Chin price ?

Baie lekker. I have been looking at some MIJ Tokais of late (strictly academic, you understand) and they are really fab instruments.

Hmm... One of the MIJ 335 clones would be the perfect electric for you, imo. Great for any acoustic context while giving you free rein on any electric style. ?

Yeah, they're really nice axes. But like I said, purely academic at this time. Believe it 'cos it's true.

If I were going to buy another axe I'd have snapped up that Morgan that Racman bought.

I might change my mind if I win the Lotto or if a Lowden comes knocking on the door.

Besides, buy an electric and then it's amplifiers, pedals.... no end to the GAS.

That is simply a beautiful guitar. Dunno what it is about these Tokais, but they simply exude quality! I love that finish, wow!

Yeah. They call this "Violin finish." It's a wonderfully mellow sunburst - like an old '50s burst that's faded halfway. Modern Les Pauls don't fade nearly as easily as the originals so a cherry sunburst is likely to stay seriously red for many many years. They're hard to fade even if you blast them with UV or leave them in the sun day in and day out (which doesn't seem like such a hot idea). So this finish is a nice way to have a guitar that looks like a lot of the 'bursts did in the late '60s.

This guitar uses nitro-cellulose. Love the smell :?. It's not to everyone's taste as the neck finish can initially be a little "sticky" and your hands tend to sweat more from the contact. I was already used to that though from my Gibson. On the upside, it tends to look a little less "glassy" than polyurethane coats - although PRSs and Tokai's own lower end models use very thin poly that still looks brilliant - albeit in a slightly glassier (I say again) kind of way.

When I open this photo on my PC it's so much bigger and even more impressive...this guitar and case glow against the black backround.

Not identical actually. The case is not a clone. More in terms of a Lifton-themed case, I'd say. There are noticeable differences. But very similar.

Rather than start a thread about it, I'll ask this questioin in here.

I'm dead set on getting a Telecaster as my next guitar. A 1952 Telecaster to be precise(obviously a re-issue...an original is way out of my budget)...seeing as so many forum members hold Tokai guitars in such high regard, would it cure my itch to get a Tokai replica of this guitar? Or should I wait for the "real" thing? Which Tokai (if there is no direct replica) most closely resembles a '52 vintage Tele? And of course, how much will it cost?
