BR-600 onboard Mic test

So I have mentioned before that i picked up a br-600 on GT. Now between running around 2 business and a household of 2 sick children I only got to test the unit last night for the first time. The main reason i got it was to have a take anywhere unit to lay down ideas that then wounld be perfected/scraped in my home studio (which is now very bare bones due to space constraints in new house.)

So i gave it a test to see what the onboard condensers could do and i am really very pleased. This whole track is recorded with the mics (except the little bassline which is my acoustic guitar using the built in bass sim). The main vocals and the guitar where recorded at the same time (yes i can play and sing at once), the backup vocals and the percussion were also recorded at the same time (the percussion sounds are me hiiting my carpet for bass drum and my leg for snare/clap), then i recorded the bass line.
So the track took 3 seperate runs (all mistakes are left) and used on 1 stringed instrument. Total about 15 mins work.

I really cant wait to set this up at band practise to record the practises so we can crit ourselves and improve whats needed.

Please note that this is NOT supposed to be a polished song but i think it has MORE than enough quality to be used as a prototype demo.

Nicely executed number. Sounds very good on earphones.

I have used the Korg PXR4 for a number of years. I mainly use mine for practicing. I go round to my mates place and record him once. Then we drink beer. I go home, add a variety of rythmns (sp?), harmonies and lead breaks, email it to him and ask him which he prefers. When we get together again its done and dusted. No repetitive practicing.

The other thing I use it for is musical ideas. I have written a number of appallingly bad songs. I use these recordings to remind myself to stick to covers.

Once you start using these devices you think of a million other uses.

Congrats on the new toy. That's pretty damn good for built in mics. Nothing to be ashamed of there - indeed excellent for the first tests of a new piece of gear. That bass sim is surprisingly good.

Yeah I must say that I'm really impressed with this unit. The size, cost and functions are brilliant for what it is.

I would get this over the tascam any day just because of the cosm modelling functionality, tuner and drum rythms. Now I'm not saying that the cosm modelling is superb because it most definitly is not, BUT it is essential if you want to use this unit wherever you go.

When I am more familiar with the unit I will try to get together a worthwhile review. Maybe DonovanB can collaborate on this with me. (or anyone else who has the unit.)

Great ideas there man! I have a BR600 too and each time i use it i am more and more amazed at what you can do with it. I'd be very keen to collaborarte ?

First, the clip... That came out very cool. plus you play and sing well man....

I do write a bit about it from time to time on my blog. (link below) although I am learning the same as everyone. I did create a pdf sheet to help keep track of what you have done etc, that is on my blog somewhere too.

I think it was Garth who told me about the Rhythm editor which is sweet. The wave converter is also quite cool and makes things a little easier.

I lost most of my backups when my pc crashed. I hope one day to get that drive back into a machine but right now I am using an old pc with no SATA connections... ☹
