Yes and Telkom hasn't improved much since then. Speaking of which our first modem was a loft of carrier pigeons. Each pigeon would carry a miniature abacus. We had to glue beads in place on abacus so that data didn't get corrupted. We would lose a few pigeons to hawks and poachers hence pigeon and it's abacus became known as snack or bite to eat. On a good day we would manage to send 30 or so pigeons between destinations. If the receiver had to wait too long for pigeons to arrive he would get bored and nip on down to pub. This became known as the bored rate. Yes we had it tough in the old days.
