Readers of the Cape Town Blues Collab thread will know my Marshall Valvestate 40 conked out. Again. I've had it repaired 3 times (2 in the last year). So that means I'm in the market for a new amp.
1. Because of my experience with the above, I'm too scared to go near "pre-played" amps. I don't want to spend R600 every few months to keep it running. Yes, I'm familiar with the second hand is better argument but I've been bitten twice now (previous was a peavey that also started to lose functions steadily). I'll still take a great pre-played guitar over anything new, but I'm not scared of things with strings.
2. I'm not married to valve but the Valvestate had one in the pre-amp that muddied/warmed the boost channel nicely... I might miss that but there's some great modelling out there no?
3. If I get a new Fender solid with a stock speaker should I swap it out for the Celestion in my Marshall? Is it a pain to do and what are the electronics implications?
4. What's the approx. solid volume equivalent of a 15w tube?
Thoughts and suggestions please!!

Jack that is a stunning amp at a super price!

What kind of music/sound do you want to play? High or low gain?
BTW even the amps in stores are "pre-played" IMO
They are used for demos and I don't know of a store that doesn't allow the staff to noodle with the gear during off peak times - it is how they learn the gear I suppose

PM'd jimbo. Thanks for keeping an eye open Nick... silly me.
@ aja: mainly heavy blues, volume not an issue 'cause I've got home practice covered with a jamvox...
