OK so i have downsized a bit pedal wise(more on the rest of the story coming later......)
I would mainly use either the ibanez ts-7 or the boss sd-1
I have been using transformers ever since i could remember.
Now that i only use 1 pedal, i might as well use a battery, as it is sometimes a hassle to get power at some venues infront of the stage(yeah i do have long power leads, but i'm lazy...)
So i have some Q's as a first time battery user:
1) How long does a battery useally last in a pedal, would there be a difference in lifetime between a ts7 and a sd-1? (plugging out the pedal when not in use ofcourse)
2) is there any specific brand of battery that would be better for pedals and last longer.
3) is rechargeable batteries a option? or do they suck.
thanks for your time.

I'm a n00b with pedals but I've been told to stay away from rechargeables. The heavy duty energizer or duracells is prob your best bet. Not sure how long the batteries will last but on my Digitech Hardwire Tube Overdrive it lasts about 17 hours of use. (energizer)
I reckon the best thing to do is to use the power brick at home and only use the batteries when you go out. That way you get the best of both. You should prob take the battery out when not in use.
Better advice will follow soon...

Drive pedals last for ages on batteries - current draw is usually well below 10ma in use, quite often 3 - 5ma, when bypassed that's often even lower. Before alkaline batteries were available I used to get at least a month out of a normal (zinc/carbon) battery in an overdrive.
It's the digital pedals that suck batteries dry in short order.

Hey man
Had a ds-1,used battery s in it,lasted -+23hours a battery,I used durasell's
Hope it helps ?

I think if you stick to the Durcells or Energisers you should fine, can always measure the inuse current draw with a multimeter and work it out ?

BTW - always use alkaline batteries in any electronic device. Aside from them lasting much longer, if they do happen to leak, the contents oxidise and go inert on contact with the air, unlike normal batteries which eat up battery contacts and sometimes electronics first.

thanks guys will let you know how it goes with my experience as a first time battery user.
still using a transformer to practice at home.

Duracell always, plus as a provincial tax payer I claim it from tax.
I used to replace batteries after every 2nd gig, but they do last longer, but I want good sound so I try make sure my power stays as regular as possible. Batteries have become too expensive, so until I am back in the corporate scene, I will be using ac power.
