Three weeks ago my fishtank burst. Not fun cleaning up a few hundred litres of water on wood floors.
Two and a half weeks ago, after searching for (I kid you not) 6 months I take delivery of my dream car, a Toyota MR2. It is a beaut! I can't believe how lucky I am to find one is such good condition, with all the extras, and with only 60'000km on the clock (not bad for a 2001 car). It even had the hard top roof included, MOMO lightweight racing wheels, steering wheel and gearknob, full sound install with DVD player and in dash screen, rollbar and imported MS design molded plastic body kit. I serviced it immediately after I got it. My family and I have been having the worst luck with cars for the past few years ☹
Friday night a guy T-bones me with a polo classic on Empire road and Yale rd, right by WITS. I hit a pavement and buckle three of the four MOMO racing mag wheels. The car is a write off - see before and after pics. The car was hit so hard that, to get out the car after I was hit, I had to kick open the passenger door, not even on the side of the collision - the whole chassis is buckled. I have bad whiplash. The accident happened at 9:50pm, I only got back from the hospital just before 3am.
It looks like the other driver doesn't have insurance and if I claim from my insurance I will lose about R30'000 because of the difference between book value and what I paid for the car with all its extras.
I spent in excess of 20 hours washing, polishing, waxing and cleaning the car, as well as removing scratches and chips using my dremel. It was my pride and joy.
The other car was a mess too - everything in front of the windshield was gone. There were bits of engine block everywhere. Luckily no one was hurt. The other car had a guy and girl, about 23 and 20 years old. This accident could have gone very differently. I missed hitting a large concrete barrier by a ruler length and luckily no one else was coming down the empire offramp - I would have hit them too.
I don't know what to do. Road accident fund maybe? There were roadworks everywhere - the yellow barriers basically resulted in the accident since the other driver couldn't see the oncoming traffic. But claiming that way could take years.
Here is a warning - I was driving a sports car with some of the best handling of any car on the road today. It had 17" racing tyres and brakes. I slammed on brakes THE INSTANT of the accident, proved by the skid marks. Even with ABS and EBD, the car took a long time to stop since I hit the pavement. Be careful guys. I would hate to have gone through this in an Opel corsa/citi golf etc.
Sorry about the bad cellphone pic at the end
