The MacSlidulator project has hit a dead end. Andy has other priorities (like running a business), and now that I have THREE guitars I no longer need a "quick change" option for playing slide. Besides it was a false dream - because even with the dingus removed I'm still stuck in open D tuning, which is not something I use a lot.
So I went the more conventional route of buying a nut extender. I got mine from Elderly. It was 7 dollars (or in that ballpark).
So here it is....
Note that the grooves are already cut. This means the spacing is predetermined, but it's no big deal. It's not like you're going to be fretting too many chords.
It's an easy install. You just slacken off the strings, slip the extender over the nut, locate the strings in the pre-cut slots and retune.
From the side...
Note the now high action - very lekker for playing slide. You can use a real heavy slide with that action.

The guitar is converted for slide with minimal effort, and the modification is easily reversible.
