Transformer Manufacturers?

I'm considering my first preamp build. I've looked at it a couple of years back, but never got round to it. For the power supply I found a place here in Gauteng called W.Gardner & Son that to custom toroidal transformers, however when I tried emailing them today it seems the address doesnt exist anymore... must've gone under :'( Anyway, my question is, where can I have custom made toroidal power transformers made in Guateng for a decent price? If anyone knows where I can get Output trannies made that would be a real bonus! (for potential future projects)

Gardners have certainly not gone under, they are now called Toroidal Technologies, I've used them to wind several transformers over the years. Last number I have for them is 0116157245, ask to speak to Yolanda, that said last transformer they did for me was Oct '08, Jeez, feels like yesterday!

Thanks Matta! That's round about the time I asked them about a transformer. I'll give them a call. Have any suggestions on OP Trannies?

That would be W. Gardner and Son t/a Toroidial Technologies. They manufacture most of the transformers we use at work in the production of products. I know Mr. Gardner personally.

Hi. Stupid question, but would these people also then help with power supplies to power up fx etc?

They just make the transformers, others make the power supplies with the transformers.

There are commercial supplies available for most effects needs. If you need a custom made power supply, rather speak to Matta, Graeme or maybe TomCat (you do that kind of stuff, Tom?). They'll know the specific requirements of audio equipment and make you something reliable. Expensive to have a custom supply made, but sometimes it's the best way to go.

Thanks Matta. Placed my order with them. Their prices seem good too. Now it's the waiting game. Guess I can start getting all the other components together. Thanks guys!

Yes I most certainly do. I do not do switch mode supplies but good old linear supplies....no problem.
