some suggestions from the electric guitar specialists please re effects

hi ya all, one of my students .... who is a very advanced player and has a cd out already and about to record the second....has made the descision to move away from acoustic to a more electric flavour on this new cd .......... she is an excellent player ...... and is wanting to buy a guitar multi fx pedal/board that will offer her high quality studio standard FX and still maintain the tone..........(she already has some lower end korg multi fx unit and has pedals too but is looking for an all in one unit that is studio ready ) she even told me yesterday that she's not looking for maximum number of effects but rather have a unit with fewer effects but better tone............ and obviously less noise

so i'm sure you guys can suggest something or even a list of pedals for her to try out ..........

and budget does not seem to be an issue ........so she's not limited in the budget area but obviously there is a cap ....... so we not talking handbuilt racks ect ect ... but some production line model thats most importantly got good tone..........

No matter what she gets she will have to spend time tweaking it.
IMO she is probably better off going clean into the desk and using plug-ins. You don't get more studio ready than that.

@ Bob. she prob could use some amp modelling 'tonally" if it's there but we looking to get a list of what you electric guys think is great THEN she will go check it out and see what she likes ... she will know what she wants when she hears it ....... but we trying to narrow the list ....... and get inside info from users on forum to what models have 'flaws" or too much noise.......

@ Donovan B ... she needs it for live use too....... she is a active performing muso on pro original music scene ........

Well in that case, from my experience with the Boss GT8, it is very good but takes time to get into. Others can say better but I doubt there is any multi-fx that comes with great tone pre-sets that are actually usable.

Also the sheer amount of options available can sometimes be a little overwhelming.
If she's after tone and less effects it comes down to the age old answer, get a good amp first. Even maybe look at the Roland Cubes, they come with some basic effects built in.

My latest acquisition, a Boss GT10, is overwhelming. It is also Uber-tweakable and the display is much better than previous models.

I used to be a die-hard GT8 fan. Boss got it right big time with the GT8.
They probably used that as a template for the GT10.

If money isn't an issue, i would consider (since your student is not looking for a whole load of FX) having a bunch of single effect pedals hooked up (for a single amp setup - something like a carl martin comp, tonebone radial or vox satchurator, eventide time factor, boss chorus, and maybe an EQ and a clean boost) going into something like the carl martin octa switch

mmm let me rephrase the money isn't an issue thing......... it more means she's not bound to the lower or mid priced fx units but i doubt the budget extends to an amp and a line of boutique pedals ............ possibly looking at something like GT10 or nova system from TC electronics

so yeah maybe my budget comment was misunderstood heheheh ..... we all wish we had a bottomless budget to fill out our wish lists......

but thanks for the input so far ..... exactly what is needed........ and please if anyone has any positive/negative things to say re the pedals out there please mention especially any disapointments... i was always taught that one should always learn from your mistakes....... and even more importantly a skill to develop is to learn by other peoples mistake........ the latter is far less traumatic ... so yeah thats why i'm putting it out there ......

Amp modelling could be the line 6 bogner... awesome sound on that thing... and its valve

+1 on the Nova system with a decent amp. Studio quality FX. Not an amp modelling processor though and more than a little spendy in comparison to other systems.

For the modellers:
Vox Tonelab for tone (unless she's looking for some über-heavy metal tones too). Decent FX, natural amp "feel" and easy to use.
Boss GT10 - FX powerhouse that can be tweaked every which way (but loose). Good modelling, but an almost overwhelming array of options.

The Tonelab LE is very very nice, and IMO has better "amp modelling" than the Boss COSM modelling...but the Boss FX is better than the Tonelab stuff, a lot better, IMO

But, the Nova System is in another league, in every way.
The Nova's distortion is all analog, think about that, programmable analog distortion...we've come a long way. ?

Everybody has there favourite. IMO the Boss GT-10 is both good for studio and stage It can be horribly complicated if you want to explore everything the machine can do or you can go into idiot mode if you want to by pressing EZtone it will ask you a few simple questions and give you a decent tone in less than a minute.

Just kidding! No personal experience, but from what I've GASsed over on the internet, the Boss GT10 or Vox Tonelab LE would be my choice.

hi ya all . just an update and thanks for the help and recommendations by all.................

my student is now the proud owned of TC electronics nova system and i got to play on it yesterday...wow awesome machine....... thanks too to stuart goodwin from marshall music who uses a nova for talking to her about it before she bought ....... even tho she never bought it from him but second hand. thanks stuart .......

but yeah this unit sounds incredible........ if you not heard one check it out ............
