I'm looking for some lighting rigs for my church. We meet in an old cinema, so without lights it pitch black, there is no natural light coming in. At this point, we have florescent lights, so its BRIGHT or dark. So, we're wanting to try and create some more mood with the lighting set up.
Any ideas of what kind of lights we should be looking into? What do churches usually use? Don't worry about prices for now, just some options would be great.
Thanks

Analogs generate alot of heat and use alot of power.
Look into LED lighting. very efficient. you can control it from a laptop to do the colors.
I only recently started learning how to do lighting(a month now ?), so i lack some major experience that i still need to build up.
But the alternative route would be to go for analogs as it is simple to hook up and understand, also depends what the situation is, regarding the LED's i am only talking stage here.
Would be best to get a lighting consultant to put something together for you.

We have 4 LED cans linked up to a laptop with lighting control software.

The person to talk to about lighting in SA is Duncan Riley of DWR Distribution. DWR is undoubtedly the best stage lighting supplier in South Africa......period.
I know Duncan very well and he will be able to help you with the correct solution for your church. Although based in Jozi they work countrywide.

+1 on the LEDs. Get a mix of cans & other fittings - let the experts help you with regard to what you're after ,plus be sympathetic to the building you're in.
You can also get creative. At Biker's Church in East London we've used about 8 old crash helmets as wall downlighters. (Stripped the linings, lined with silver foil for reflectors, aluminium base cut to size & hinged, add a light fitting, then water paper on the visors to make them semi-opaque. Works like a charm, suits the vibe). Total cost? Minimal - our labour, satin black spray paint, sandpaper, fittings bulbs & wiring. The rest was all salvage.
