i have heard that the ISP Noise Decimator pedal and rack mount are prob the best on the market.
i have never tried one, but apparently they are awsome

There is a noise suppressor in the GT8. I don't lose any tone and when I stop playing the sound stops, especially on high gain applications it is a wonder. On clean stuff It isn't necessary for me but I don't put on overdrive without it now.

I plan to eventually place a GT-10 in my effects loop. So I could use the build in Noise Gate. That will then be in the FX loop.

Q1: Pedal vs. Rack?

Depends on the quality. Rack do tend to be better and have trigger/sidechain inputs. The proper rack noise gates are usually better known as "compressors" ? (it's all in the way you set them up). Take a look at the ISP Technologies range

Q2: Where in to place noise gate?

If you don't have a trigger input, then put it after your last noisy effects. Always before reverbs and delays for a much more natural decay sound.

And yes, most multiFX have them built in. ?

So that would be sufficient? No need to go and spend R2K + on a noise gate?
Or would the rack noise gate still beat the GT-10 gate? I assume this boils down to personal taste.

This looks like the beez knees! At $500 (+-R4000) it is pricey and probably an overkill for any home based guitar freak like me ?

The MultiFX gates tend to work very well indeed as they automatically use the guitar input as a trigger. They are also real simple to set up.

You can only use an external gate with a multiFX if the MultiFX has an FX loop that is movable to any position in the chain (also ups your cable count by three from one to four). Do-able, but ungainly.

Indeed Alan, one need to make the choice between a rack gate or a FX gate. Using both seems like a bad idea.

Buy the TC Electronics Nova System...find a used one on eBay...it will be the last multi FX you'll ever buy...you can even sell your overdrive/distortion pedals.

Are you using single coil pickups...why the need for a noisegate?

Thanks Lance, I have a friend that swears by the Nova System.
I will probably still by a GT-10 before the Nova System, but I will buy the G-Major2 with a smile!
The G-Major2 also has a noise gate!

I will never throw away my TS9 ? I will only use other effects in the return loop section of my rig.

why the need for a noisegate?

No need for one yet, I'm just testing the water and getting some info regarding gates ?
I get 0% noise from the Marshall ?

I played the NOVA system in dubai,really sweet i just couldnt afford it (About R4300 converted) i got the NS2 and i had all the pedals like ODS etc running in the NS2 loop which worked WONDERS! except you get a volume swell everytime your strum your first chord so that i just couldnt live with. I put the NS2 at the end of my chain and it didnt do much? i now place the NS2 FIRST guit>ns2>effects>amp and it works really well like this,unconventional i know but its stopping the feeback high pitch sound whith high gain settings...

Great thanks Donovan. Will give a NS2 a go.
I'm trying to stay away from pedals on the floor.
My TS9 is all I need for now. Thinking of going the rack route for the gate or using the GT-10.
Now the tossup between G-Major2 and GT-10 ???
