Vox v847 Wah Pot

Hey guys,

The pot on my Vox v847(USA) Wah is scratchy, any advice? should i change the pot all together? in which case, any suggestions on which to get and where from.
Otherwise, can it be fixed/cleaned?

Turnkey are the agents. They used to always keep stock of the pots, but I haven't ordered one for quite a while.

My Crybabys had a bit of a scratch in it, removed it and cleaned with switch cleaner. Seems to have worked, only downside being you need to get the pot back in and in the same place otherwise you mess with the sweep of the wah.

They are self-cleaning, so I find if rocking the pedal back and forward a couple of dozen times doesn't clean it up, it's replacement time.

You can try cleaning it out with electrical contact cleaner but it is probably only a stop gap measure, might get you a couple of days, might be a couple of years. Try and get a contact cleaner that also has a lubricant, this should help the repair last a bit longer.

Otherwise I'm pretty sure the Vox uses the same pot as the Crybaby so one of the (excessively overpriced) replacements should work. Be warned they are US $15-$20.

The other alternative is to add the Tom Anderton LED/LDR circuit. This takes the pot completely out of the audio circuit, it is only used to effect the intensity of the LED which in turn shines on the LDR. It's a very simple circuit to build and works well. All swapped out, Wah works like new!!

Has anyone tried the Hot Potz sealed replacement? My Vox is scratchy, and my Crybaby that I'm going to give to a mate is way beyond scratchy so I'm thinking of getting two of them. Is it worth it?

Serious design flaw imo. What cant they have a little sleeve attached to the underside of the pedal, covering the opening so that the interior is sealed to increase the life of the pot?

I haven't prioritised this either, because I think learning to use a wah is a serious undertaking. But that's a whole other story. I reckon only 1 player in 100 can actually use a wah pedal.
