Handheld Digital recorders

Hi guys
I'm in the market for a portable "field" recorder like the Zoom H4n for songwriting mainly, but also for more serious recording.
Has anyone here used these, and what's the verdict? ?

Yamaha's Pocketrak W24 looks also nice with its wireless remote which could be a useful feature...

Have a look at the Olympus LS10 as well. I've got one and it is awesome. I little pricey, but well worth it!

we've used one of the zoom Handhelds in our practices. It does get amazing quality for a field recorder and, depending on placement, can get a very good general sound recorded.
The Zoom also comes with 2 XLR inputs so you can place mics anywhere and uses SD cards for memory which is easily upgradeable.

For more serious recording maybe one of the Boss recorders will do better. I've used the Micro BR and the BR600. Believe me, you can get a very good idea of what you would like your arrangement to sound like on one of those, plus they have built in effects for guitar and mic. They also include a basic, but very kick-ass, mastering toolkit.

That one is also on my shortlist;they have the LS-11 out now as well.
I'm also looking at the Tascam Dr-1, Sony PCM-10, and Edirol R09-HR.
They're all in the $300 price and 24bit/96kHz quality range.
The only thing I don't like about the Olympus, is the remote which is $70 extra.
The Yamaha has it all included, works on a single standard AA battery!!!! (which is a big plus for me as well), and is the size of a modern cell phone.

Got myself a Zoom H2. Less features, but the same recording quality (24bit/96kHz) as that of the H4N and the Olympus @ 1/2 the price.
