Keira, I'll have to say I've never found a nice guitar at a second hand shop, but then again those aren't too popular in Pretoria. I always dream about walking in and finding an American Fender, busted up but salvageable, for like 1 grand.
mmm Nico... finding a fender or gibson is almost imposible...since even my mother who is totally unmusical cand tell that fender and gibson are the "mercedes benz" of guitars........ that is top end ..... so pawn shop owners know this too.........
i have found my best deals on acoustics and especially nylon string ... just recently i bought a top of range calssical yamaha in mint condition with a hard case for R1300 unbelievable find that Joel from forum alerted me to.........
you should hold out for some good old ibanez guitars when it comes to electrics .... i recently saw an awesome also mint ibanez for R2000 but it was least an upper end ibanez... i forget the model number. but i played it and it had awesome feel and a neck thru body ... i woulda jumped at it if i had a use for electrics.......
so forget the dreams of the fenders or gibsons.......thats like winning the lottery
but there are some awesome deals to be had...... 3 of my guitars are from pawn shops and all are pro standard instruments...... meaning i can use em at my pro gigs or in studio ...
but yeah it means weekly calls to pawn shops and not getting frustrated when there is no luck for weeks or months......
but yeah if you not the "hunting" type just buy new and enjoy it heheheh
