Manfred-Klose they are pretty rare in SA. you would have to import one through a music shop, if your lucky to find one.
AlanRatcliffe Speak to Marshall Music. I think if anyone can get one, it'll be them. I know someone who has one (no, he's not selling - it's his pride and joy). A great sounding guitar.
cain I thought gibsons where not comming into the country anymore ? Cos the importers ticked gibson off ?
AlanRatcliffe I've since heard they can get them for their own shops. Strange situation, I don't know the whys and wherefores - I've given up trying to figure Gibson's business practices.
Mr-M When I was there a month ago, the guys at Music Connection said Gibson want to deal direct with the music stores instead of using a distributor. The only catch, according to them, is that the minimum order is a container full of guitars. That's alot of guitars and therefore alot of $! He reckons very few stores in SA will be able to do this because of the cost, but big stores like them and the Marshalls will probably be able to bring in a container once every year or 2 so they can have some Gibsons in stock. I didn't ask about Epiphone though (which is far east made generally vs USA of Gibson), so would that mean the same would apply to them, shipping from a different location? If it does work like that, how would specially ordering one guitar work, I wonder? Might be something to buy on eBay then...
AlanRatcliffe Ouch! You're talking having to stock millions of Rands worth at a time. Of relatively slow-moving, high priced instruments. Then you're going to have to move them all before you buy the next batch. If they attach any other conditions, like having to order a representative range, no-one will want to do it. You also wouldn't be able to mix Epiphone and Gibson, as they are shipped from different locations, so if you wanted to carry both, you'd have to order two containers. The mind boggles... On the bright side, we'll probably see a few of the better PRSi hanging on the wall of your local music shops to fill the holes left by Gibson.
Reef Jeepers. A container full of guitars? I wonder what gibson's reasons are for wanting to deal directly with music stores instead of distributors. Surely from a logistical perspective its easier to deal with 1 organisation as opposed to 20
AlanRatcliffe I wonder what gibson's reasons are for wanting to deal directly with music stores instead of distributors. Corporate stupidity...
