Swooping across the boundaries between, country and western, jazz, rockabilly, and classical guitar playing. Chet Atkins could do just about anything really well.

I've bought a book :?. Let's see how that goes. Any love for old Chester?

The title of this song should be a hint as to one particular famous rocker who was a big Chet fan. In fact there are passages in this song that sound like a few of the things that individual got up to.
I grew up to Chet - my mother was a big fan and had all his albums.
I want to get that "Chester and Lester" album. That sounds like a great combo.
It is a good album. I do prefer the Atkins/Knopfler collab Neck and Neck though. IMO, while Chet and Les had a lot of common ground, Chet and Mark were made for each other and seem ultra comfortable, with a smooth patter between them that makes it seem they have been playing together for ever and seem to push each other. Almost as good is The Day Finger Pickers Took Over The World -Chet with Tommy Emmanuel (but I think you probably already know that ?).

Oh YES. Fab player. Very influential too - that whole "Nashville Sound" thing. I think of him as almost a "Country and Jazz" player because of the sophistication he bought to country music.

Here's a nice little clip of Atkins and a great student of his, Mark Knopfler. You get a close up look at Chet's considerable right hand technique.

Chet is my hero - I grew up playing his music and through studying what he was doing I learned to play fingerstyle playing the bass rhythm and lead simultaneously. Thanks uncle Chet RIP.
i loved chet for what he inspired, a new generation of guitarists who took what he did and took it further
I only know Chet Atkins through the collab with Tommy Emmanuel, but that was enough to make me go "Damn that guy can play!"

                Endless respect for Chet! 8)
Great vids guys, thanks! inspiring and depressing at the same time
