and I didnt have any spare. I dont know what happened to it but I was changing strings (goin up to phosphor bronze 12 from 11) and next thing I looked and it was gone. It may have been the black dog that I've got that just picks up things and eats them. I swear this animal eats the skin off golf balls. So I had a guitar without a 1st string. I was a bit upset becasue the bit of guitar I can play I play on 6 strings. What I have got is lots of golf tees which seemed about ok so I took one and cut it short and sort of gouged a bit of a groove in the side. Reason for the post is to find out if it is OK to leave for a while until I change strings again at which time I will have procured a fine new set of bridge pins? Now, I am gonna try and upload a picture, following Alan's instructions in the how to's.
I can't see any problems - unless you had to use a mallet to get it into the hole.
Just make sure that the string breaks properly across the saddle and that it's held securely in - you don't want it slipping whilst you're playing.
I'd change it as soon as I get a new set of pins - just because I'm a wuss. No need to change the strings, just slacken off the first, out with the tee and in with the new pin.
Do your ears detect any difference in the sound?
Since you've gone up a gauge on the strings I'd check the neck relief. You've gone to PBs as well. PBs are heavier than 80:20 gauge for gauge so in terms of tension you can think of the lights you've put on as "light and a quarter".
