this is actually more weird, I dont understand how ppl like them
I do. It's to appear mysterious and eccentric. You put this on and tell people it's the awesomest, and they go, "Dude, you're nuts." And you get the warm glow. Music to seek attention to, I call it.
But the Locusts are ok. Always for me the challenge is to create experimental music that isn't simply doing all the things that you normally never do in music. In other words, can you make experimental music that sounds nice? I think John Zorn manages that a lot of the time. His "sports" tunes are really interesting but also enjoyable. Zappa is legendary because he could do this. In his day what John Coltrane did was pretty whack. The locusts are taking a bit of a short cut. They play well, and it's very creative - but they fall back on using a lot of ugly, angry sounds in order to be different. Now any fool can do that. What's hard is including stuff that's not ugly, that's new.
And if you automatically feel that it doesn't sound experimental enough by virtue of normal people actually liking it (Kraftwerk, for e.g.) then what you're actually looking for is category B: Music to seek attention to.
p.s. I think they used Ibanae in the past. Now they're all blind - hence the masks.
