I must say, there's a gorgeous simplicity to the '54 with the wrap-around tailpiece. I've never been wild about the gold only approach to Les Pauls with P-90s - I way prefer that mine is black. But I do like that tail-piece.

Saying that, I'm going the other direction entirely by putting a Bigsby on mine. :?

The Gold can be overwhelming as in this All Gold from '56 (Gruhn Guitars)

Is that original? Yeah. Don't like that.

It's nice to see the mahogany on the back and neck, unless the LP is black, or bright white, imo. I have a vague fantasy of ordering a cheaper Tokai standard, but getting them to do a custom top in what they call "vintage ivory" which is an off-white bordering on cream. I think that would look great with a pale mahogany back.

I'm surprised this has never been chosen as a look for LP standards.

Original yes....except this one was refinished. I have this "vague fantasy" to buy this guitar, belief it or not... ? Must go and see a shrink...!

The guitar has been totally refinished from front to back.
I would hate to know what the thick gold paint is hiding.
Maybe a neck break.

The guitar would have had a new serial number applied.
Maybe it started life out as a 54/55 wraptail and been converted to a tuneomatic. 8)

OK. what is he asking for it?
All Gold LP's are less desirable than natural backs. They don't sell well.
It must have been a real basketcase or have had some serious issues.
Why spend more time,effort and money restoring it to an All Gold and make it less desirable. ?

According to info it was an "all gold" originally which was quite worn. No issues as well, just the refin of course. Price is around $16k. Hey, I have 1st option ! ? Are you aware that Gibson is now reissueing '56 "All Golds" due to popular demand? We are living in an ever changing world especially when it comes to taste. ?

Ask for some pre restoration pictures and the truth will be revealed. 8)

LOL...I'm seeing my shrink tomorrow. No, vinguit, I will certainly not indulge in this one....I am working closer to home on a '58 with only the machine heads changed in the 60's.

"All gold" Les Pauls are cool. I had a look at a 54 in the UK last year.
I am just trying to point out some possible flaws and why you try look at 100% original Guitars. ?

Much appreciated. I agree, one should consult widely prior to buying anything antique.....I am also a collector of antique Cape furniture and am very aware of the potholes so to speak. Thanks Vinguit.
