The scallops are already pretty deep (taped off a line 2mm deep). Doesn't sound deep but it's surprisingly pretty pronounced ?
+ the fret height - it adds up. Anyway, the depth of a scallop is more to do with how far you can bend the string by pushing into the fingerboard, rather than the feel, as beyond 1/2 mm deep and you don't feel the fingerboard anyway - if the frets are tall enough, you may not even feel any fingerboard before you scallop.
I stopped at 220 grit though :\ Feels pretty damn smooth to me or do you guys think i should go over the frets again +-twice more with 2 highers grits?
Go through all the grits up to about 800, then finish of with fine steel wool. The frets will feel great and bends will be much easier.
I was thinking about just drowning it in lemon oil (as suggested on another site).
DO NOT use lemon oil on maple (in fact I have reservations using it on rosewood). If you want to seal off the fingerboard easily without relaquering, use a drying oil such as tung oil or
boiled linseed oil or even a wipe on film finish like shellac.
