a bunch of swedish metal bands did an ABBA tribute. It is awesome!

I dont care much for Tribute bands, especially ones who try and cover the songs note for note. I do love 'original' covers though. Favourites are Metallica - Whiskey in the jar, Ben Harper - Sexual Healing, Beautifull South - Youre the one that I want, Keane - With or without you, Travis - One more time, Jef Buckley - Hallelujah, Lifehouse - You belong to me... hell, this list is getting long now. Also once heard an accoustic band/duo do covers of Metallica's older songs once. Brilliant.

2 Tribute CD's that really made an impression on me:
Tribute to ABBA
Tribute to the four horsemen (Metallica)
Super cd's, especially the ABBA cd!

The "Across the Universe" album has some strange versions of beatle songs, some are quite good apart from Joe Cockers "Come Together"
IMO only John Lennon does "Come Together" justice.
There was the "Kiss my ass" Kiss cover album that had some good tracks especially "Hard Luck Woman" by Garth Brooks.

I really enjoy the work of the Easy Star All-Stars in turning classic albums into reggae and dub versions. I can recommend Radiodread (OK Computer) and Dub Side of the Moon. Both are great.
IceCreamMan
Apocolyptica (sp)
and now for something completely different.

Wasn't that called Black Sweden? Made me laugh, it did.

Have you guys heard Hayseed Dixie, and their bluegrass covers of AC/DC (obviously) and KISS? Very much awesome.

They've done a good version of Fat Bottomed Girls (Queen) too.

Enjoyed the movie but worried about the songs out of context... Will check out the ABBA tribute. Fun. Are there any good collected Dylan covers?

I love a good cover. Squonk's post about 'Come Together' made me think of Michael Jackson's version - which I absolutely love. Nice and dirty.
His take on 'Smile' (both of which are on HIStory) is also magical. The man knows knew how to do a song justice.
Children of Bodom's "The Trooper" is a firm favourite of mine and, also, Guns n Roses' "Knocking on Heaven's Door" is intensely awesome, to me.
Definitely agree that it's more enjoyable when they're not redoing it note for note but inject themselves into the song. That makes it tasty and refreshing.

John Mayer's cover of Tom Petty's Free Falling does it for me. That has to be one of my favorite covers ever.

Garth Brooks covered "To make you feel my love" and it gave me goosebumps. Other than the Hendrix covers such as "like a rolling stone" and Dave Matthews doing "All along the watchtower" at woodstock 99....

Nativity in black was pretty cool. Its a tribute album to black sabbath. A friend of mine had it when we where in boarding school. There was a second one, but I only listened to the first one. That was pretty cool.

Then there's that depeche mode tribute album where the pumpkins did the smoothest version of "Never let me down again"
Anyone care to guess what big metal song came off that album?

Nativity in black
That reminds me, where are my NIB 1 & NIB 2 cd's?
Completely forgot I had those! Iron Man is insane on NIB 1!
Most probably a friend borrowed it and never brought it back >☹
