Epiphone LP standard

Okay so I can get this R3000. Should I go for it? I think its worth a lot more the 3k.
Ill get pictures tonight so Ill upload them then.

Really? ??? Ive seen them on gumtree for about R6k.

So what would be a good price to pay? assuming its in good and clean ect

You've seen them advertised for R6k... I doubt they'd sell for that much dude.

I think if it's clean with case, R3k is fair. Find out what year it is and what model as well. The older the better usually ? Mine is a 2 piece mahogany which is pretty good. Very nice bottom end.

That's honestly ridiculous.. You can get a nicer Tokai for the same money..

I don't think 3K is bad at all, paid 3200 new for mine about 4/5 years ago... prices have gone up a lot since then and you can't just walk into a store and get one anymore

Typical prices for Epi LP Standards are from 3-4.5K for a clean example with the case. That makes 3 grand for a tidy example a pretty decent deal considering some of the asking prices out there. Don't pay more for a Plus - it's just a Standard with flame veneer.

Check the serial number to see where it's made - a friend of mine picked up a mint (and I mean mint) 1997 Korean Goldtop (their version of a '57 LP) with hard case for about 5. Much nicer than some of the Customs I've seen, perfectly set-up & one of the best Epis I've played. Some are shocking, others are pretty damn good.

If it has a bolt on neck, just walk on.
If it has a set neck, I'd go for it.
I've seen a few old Epiphone Les Pauls with bolt on necks.
Not worth it.

Okay I got pictures.

The plan was to buy this (coz I thought it was a really good deal) and trade it for an amp. I do want an LP but not right now.
Maybe Ill just get it anyway and the amp can wait.

So Im going to ask for a seriel the year it was made. What else should I ask?

If you're going to buy it, you imho want to know what strings are on. This is hard to tell. If it has got high action and thicker strings than you use, you might be able to play it without getting a new setup. If the action is too low and you would like to put thicker strings on, same story. It just saves you putting on a new set of strings just to find out you want to spend another R600 on a setup (unless you want to do it yourself).
All sortsa other things (what's the acoustic tone like, how do the pups sound, how high are the frets and is there a lot of fretwear, do the pots/switch/jack need replacement, is the neck warped, are there dead spots on the fingerboard, what's the action like) you can only see for yourself.

BTW the strings on the treble side should wind the other way and it looks stupid to not cut off the string ends >☹

What Gearhead says about fretwear in particular is VITAL. I bought a strat that had really really bad fretwear. After a fretlevel though it has nice low frets which I like as well as a decent action.

Action has nothing to do with fret height, just to nip that myth in the bud (do you spell it like that?).
Low frets do not survive another dress, so higher frets give longer guitar life (unless you like spending your time or money on a refret).

I don't want to quote myself, but I'll explain myself.

I hate jumbo frets. I like low "vintage" frets.

Now that my frets have been leveled, I am able to lower the action.

I got the exact same guitar in December, I love it. The tone is amazing, although I did get mine at R1900 including case. Try get him down to about R2500.

I sold my 2003 ZW Epi LP with stock EMG HZ-somethings (non active jobbies) for 5K - no problem.

Took it too the guitar store and three weeks later they asked me to collect my money.

I was also told, by another guitar store, that right now, no one is officially bringing any Epiphone guitars into the cuntry - any thruth in that ?
