Went yesterday and collected my new pickups. Shortly after I finished up with the soldering and the results are great. I went for some Dimarzio pickups. I have a D-Sonic on the bridge and a Liquifire on the neck. Its pretty much the 6-string version of John Petrucci's setup. My guitar already had a 5-way selector switch which allowed me to wire them with the single coils included as well. The D-Sonic in humbucking mode gave me the bass I so badly needed and has a great tone with all the high gain stuff I play. My sustain seems to have improved too, however I think its a matter of the pickups being much more sensitive so i'm getting sustain from feedback at much lower volumes than before. The liquifire in humbucking mode also sounds great for solo/lead stuff. The two-pickups combined actually sounds very good too. Both of them give a good clean tone especially the liquifire. In single coil mode, well they sound like single coils ? . I also find I can now use the volume knob with much greater effect and I don't have to leave the tone knob on max all the time, I can play around and it still sounds good. Anyways i'm very happy, the guitar is now where I want it to be. Still have more fiddling to do with pickup heights and pedal/amp settings but so far i'm very happy.
