Ok, so i got an old Johnson bass. It's a blue sunburn to black one. Very cheap, not so nice but all i got.
My plan is to repaint it since i dont have money to buy a new one. All the articles i read about repainting guitars talks about all american products, problem is, im not in america. So i want your help to get info on what paints you used and some tips. Any suggestions, tips etc, please let me know. thanx

Some day when I really get good at guitar building I'm going to make a blue/dark blue double stain bursting to black.. Hang on, you want to strip your bass? ?
I am still planning on testing some locally available waterbased spray paint products but haven't gotten around to doing any of it (partly on account of weather). Will report on the forum as soon as I have any news. I think Plascon is the way to go, but need to see what it works like.

I use the Plascon nitrocellulose lacquer and use powdered analine dyes to colour it.

thanks a lot you guys, do you just sand the original paint off or is there another method?

A Johnson will more than likely have a polyester finish, so you can't use a chemical stripper. Sanding, chipping or heat gun are your options - or a combination. Most guys go for sanding, but it's a lot of work. I like chipping off with blades.

Any Plascon stockist can get it if they don't have it in stock. Dyes and stains I import from Stewmac.
