i got to watch this last night ....... yep the coming together of jimmy page/the edge and jack white .......... to discuss guitars and music....... ok let...

I haven't seen this yet and am in no way dissing it. Can't wait to watch it!

But, if you wanna watch a documentary where you get to see the "human-ness" of the stars... watch "Some Kind of Monster".

Sure it was a terrible album but if that documentary was the only good thing to come out of it, it was worth it! It really shows how tough it is to be huge and hate the people you work with (and so many other things - the difficulties of pleasing your record company, etc, etc).

Don't knock it just coz it's related to St Anger - watch it for the documentary. It made me decide I don't want to be THAT big ever ?

Jack White stole the show. The Edge looked freaked out by Jimmy. And Jimmy has had a facelift. Terrible really...

Jimmy Page inspired me to play guitar, and I was a bit sad to see there wasn't much of mind behind the brilliant guitar work. Jake White on the other hand, was very interesting, and had minimalist and controversial views on popular culture. I think in the current music climate, we need more Jack Whites than guitar heroes who can play at the speed of light.

There has been many a documentary maker who believed that all it takes is to put some legends together to make something magical happen... It takes a lot more.
I think it is in Edge's personality to keep his distance.
I don't think old rockers like Page should ever get less good, nothing to prove but what about the love for music?
Finally I was put off by the Jack White notion that music should be a struggle. It would depend on the emotion the music is intended to communicate. Plus the blood-on-pickup-cover thing was uncalled for. He to me has yet to prove that he can create magic, seems to be a far better musician than his records show. Why has he not made a Stairway / Under the Bridge / Layla / Little Wing / Tush / Still Got The Blues yet?

Gearhead I have the EXACT same views with the exception of Page. I can to an extent excuse him for his playing ? Just because I think that he's past his sell by date (yea guys like Les Paul and Lawrence have played till the final stretch of their lives, but starting so young and doing only that for your entire life, I can understand one needs breaks..)

I used to be a very big Jack White fan.. Now I think he's just an emo. He has that perspective on music.. Trying to be different etc

mmm i don't think jack white is trying to be different.... he's been that way ever since he started the white stripes and thats before he became a "known" name...

so yeah think he's just not what most retro rock fans expect ...

and i personally like his image and his attitude to how he approachs his music. and technology or anti technology ...... not saying i buy into everything he says....... but at least he's not trying to be a clone......

he's refreshingly original in a world that is so technologically driven...... and proving to the masses one does need the expensive guitars to play at that level......

but yeah i'm also a hippie and anti technolgy so maybe i'm just supporting a similar mindset ...

but truth be told i ... yes me not suggesting anyone else would...but i would sooner want to spend a day jamming and talking music to jack white than page or the edge........

he plays a mean slide and wow that retro blues he mess's with ...i do hope he brings out a cd of it , i'm NOT A WHITE STRIPES fan but i am a fan of jack white.... especially more so after seeing the docci...........

so before the mob arrives at my front door to lynch me.... i do understand page and even the edge are "musical Gods" to some and don't take anything away from that by supporting or preffering jack white ... but feel someone should defend jack white ... in this thread... and lets give him some time to find his voice and create those classics..........

Jackie White? The classics are there already IMHO... classics are only recognised as classics AFTER some time has passed. More so now that tens of thousands of albums are released annually. Uncut's "Man of the Decade" is not a stretch as far as I'm concerned. But I don't think that matters either way, he writes some really good tunes of a certain style and projects an image just like every other performer. As for Jimmy, he's 70, he's contributed more than almost any other electric guitarist, there's more to life than keeping your chops up for the sake of... who? I'm sure he enjoys playing and is not too stressed by the fact that he can't recreated 10 masterpiece albums note for note.

I don't see why old rockers can't just fade away. Some do. Some don't. Many artists seem to have had only so many miles on one tank. It doesn't necessarily matter - a vein can be rich and productive but still be limited.

In 30 years jack white will be just the next jimmy page.......... Jack white is amazing in my view, he is a very creative guitarist, but hey I like that in a musician. I am sure back in the day jimmy page was looked down on by some blues/ jazz guitarists for being to differant, or emo for that time period or the equivalent of.
Keira if you like jack white you should check out his other band The Racountours...... very cool group...... a bit more blues I would say
For a good band docu check out Radioheads "Meeting people is easy" Thats amazing as it documents the whole KID A , Amnesiac, era........
I find jammy page a bit lame these days, no doubt he made good music with zepplin but now he seems to have gone a bit lame, outdated etc, The Edge, well I like U2 especially after seeing them at millenium stadium during the vertigo tour......... The edge is a clevr guitarist as he uses delay to play what sounds like complex but is super easy ?

i'm so glad theres so many jack white fans ... he really impressed me and i don't really know his stuff.... other than his hits.......

so for a young guitarist to be thrown into a room /docci with 2 legends from the decades of 70's and 80's and to still come out looking fabulous and not being intimidated or swamped by the legends...shows great presense.....

and tho i know the die hard rock fans won't agree but he seems to come off as the one of the three i would be more intruiged with and wat to hear more from ..........

so yeah like i said jack white rules

I was disappointed by the Edge. All that stuff about tree's aligning was just painful, and he was the least musically interesting of the three, IMO.

Imagine going out onto a stage with just a drummer, a very very average drummer, and doing what this guy does to create a great show?

Unique interesting weird crazy guitar tones, amazing voice, IMO....this guy is something special...

Is it just me or does Jack White kinda sound like Robert Plant at times? Too bad I havent got a mate from the States like all you okes. ? Will maar wait for the Dvd, cause Kimberley sure as hell wont have it on the big screen...
